An Bass Guitar Scales in Ab (A Flat)

RYAN LARSON: Now, we're going to take a visual look at the scale and we're starting rather high with the scale today. We're on the 2nd string here, on the 6th fret and that's you're A-flat. And we go, 6-8-10-6-8-10 and that gets us up to the sixth note of the scale, 1-2-3-4-5-6. Then to get to the rest of the notes, we have to go down so we have--again we have 10-8-6 and then 9-8-6 and then our root is here on the 4th fret but we're leaving that out right now so we have--so we have 1-7-6-5-4-3-2 and 1-2-3-4-5-6. So, now when we have a root that say, is a 2, we can start here or we can start here or say, we have a flat 4, we can go 1-7-6-5-4 and then a flat 4 wouldn't lower it down a fret so we'd start here. So, we're really utilizing this major scale to go through and analyze a piece that's written in A-flat and then we can go through and find the different root notes and then apply the major scale or minor scale or a seven scale that applies for that particular chord.
