Measures 5-6 in a Jazz Bass D Major Scale

RYAN LARSON: So now we've gone through our first four measures and we ended up here at our IV chord on our 5th measure, our G7 to our sharp iv, our G sharp diminished. So what we're going to do is start with our IV and walk in the pattern and then start with our sharp iv and still walk in the pattern and we'll get the same scale. So if you count 1-2-3-4 right, so we can go IV, sharp iv, I. So again, IV, sharp iv, I, and that's where we're going. We're going IV to sharp iv and then our next chord is a I. So you're just using a note outside of the scale but we're still going to walk the rest of it in the scale. We can even do this [PLAYS WALKING BASS]. So just start on the IV and go to the sharp iv and stay on that major scale pattern and you'll be hitting some nice sweet notes.
