Measure 1 in a Jazz Bass E Major Scale

RYAN LARSON: So now, we're going to go through our first bar which is that E7 which remember I said we're going to talk about. So we have an E7 and just need to get four beats. So you could even just walk the first four notes of the major scale. But remember, we have to lead into this IV chord too so you might want to skip over iv and go maybe 1-2-3-5-4, right? So it sounds like this, 1-2-3-5-4, [PLAYS BASS LINE] right? Cause if just walk up the scale I'd have [PLAYS BASS LINE] and I want to land on that note so [PLAYS BASS LINE]. And remember we said we have our E7 chord. So instead of 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-1, we're going to take the 7 and then you got an open string. So we have 0-2-4-0-2-4-0-2, and that's how you get a 7 chord is you take the 7th note of the scale and drop it down a notch. So we just have to walk four beats and land this A here. So we can do [PLAYS BASS LINE] right? I-5-1-flat 7 and right on 4. or you could do 1-2-3-5-4. So that's your first measure and you just have four beats and you're going to walk from that E into that A7.
