Walking Through Section B Measures to Play an E Major Scale

RYAN LARSON: So now we've walked through our A section, so now we have to go through and analyze our B section. So remember, we started on our C sharp minor, so that's our vi minor and you this F sharp minor right here, so that's out ii minor. So we're going to walk using 6 as a root for two bars and then F sharp or 2 as a root for bars. And then you have a ii-v going to a I-vi, ii-V. so we're going to through and walk that now. so we started right here at vi, right? 1-2-3-4-5-6 and then my other vi is--this is the only vi I have. So I've gotta keep coming back to this on the beat. So, one-two-three-four. one-two-three-four, ii, right? 'Cause I go vi to ii. so vi, ii, ii-V, I-vi, ii-V, I. so now, we're going to walk through that again. So remember, we started on the vi, ii, ii-V, I and then we have that I-vi, ii-V turnaround, right? I-vi, ii-V, I. So what I did there is I used chromatic steps to approach it. so I had I-vi, ii-V. So I did a half step into each one or a chromatic fret into it. I into vi, into ii, into V. So I'm going out of the scale there, but I'm just using those as passing tones [PLAYS I-vi, ii-V PATTERN] and you can hear how nice that works. So that's the quick run through to the changes to "Mack the Knife" so you can go through and start walking on them on the bass and singing with your friends.
