RYAN LARSON: Now we're going to go through and analyze the chord changes to a famous tune, "Mack the Knife." And if you take a look, they all fall right in the E major scale. So if you start right here, here's our first two measures and it's right on E major. So you just start walking through E major, then we go to F sharp minor, so F sharp was our ii, right? So we have I major, ii minor, and then the V7, right? B7, right? E, F sharp, G sharp, A, B, there's our V7 chord. Then we have our F sharp minor again, and our B7. Now keep in mind, you don't have to memorize which notes out of the scale are major and minor because it's already pretty much given to you. We go back to E major and them we go up to our iii minor, right? E, F, G sharp minor. And then it starts walking on the vi minor and then we go back to the ii minor, F sharp, ii, E, F, right? Then ii minor, V7, then you have your I-vi, ii-V turnaround when we go from the 1st degree, the 6th degree, 2nd degree, to the 5th degree. So again, we're just going through and we're finding the notes or the degree of the scale that we're going to be using as our root for each chord. And again, if you look at our tab over here, you have 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-1. So all our F sharp minors are going to be ii's, all our D7 are going to be V's, and all our C sharp minors are going to be vi's, right here, on the 4th fret on the 2nd string. So now we're going to go through the--walk through each one of these bar by bar, so you can actually get a physical view of how we're going to walk through these simple bass lines.
