Analyze Chord Changes in an F Major Scale on Bass Guitar

RYAN LARSON: All right, so now we're going to go through and analyze the changes to "Mack the Knife." And the great thing about this tune is it uses all the chords that come out of our F major scale. So remember our roman numerals, we started on our I major then we go to our ii minor, right, G minor, F, G, then we go up to C, right, after G we to go A. So, F, G, A, B, C, so there is our V7, ii minor, V7, ii minor, V7 to I. So we got I, ii-V, ii-V, 1, really simple. So we use I as a root, ii as a root, V as a root, ii as the root, V as the root, I as the root. And then we go up to our iii minor, which leads into our vi minor for two whole measures, and we're going to walk this using our vi as our root and then we walk two measures just using our ii as our root, our G minor. Then we go ii, V, I-vi, ii-V, and this is a classic jazz turnaround where you walk from I to the vi to the ii to the V out of the scale you're playing. So we're going to go through and actually walk through this whole piece and we can show you real quick the roots. You start on I, ii-V, ii-V, I, iii-vi, and we stay on vi for 2 measures then we go ii-V, to I-vi, ii-V, I. So those are the chord centers that we're going to use as we go through and walk through our F major scale.
