RYAN LARSON: So now, we're going to go over our first measure. And you see it's a D flat 7 instead of a D flat major, now and I'm going to explain that to you. D flat 7 in our blues tunes use the 7 chord, and this is used in jazz in general a lot. You'll see your 1 chord as a 7 chord, but I'll explain it to you. You have your scale here, right? One-2-3-4-5-6-7-1. So we take the 7 right here, right? Which is at the 1-2-3-4-5th fret, and we're going to drop it down to the 4th fret. So now we have the scale: 1-2-3-4-5-6-flat 7-1. But we only have 4 beats to play it in, so we can play our standard blues line which just goes 1-3-5-7, 1-3-5-7-1-7-5-3, and we have to land on our 4 for our next measure. So we just got to get four beats, so we could even do this, like, 1 walking down to 4, right? Five, our 1-4, our 1-4. So that's your first measure, your D flat 7, and all you have to do is hit four notes inside that scale and start right on D flat.
