Okay, I want to say some things, this woman has absolutely no idea what she is talking about. Being cold blooded has absolutely nothing to do with humidity needs, Monitor lizards and bearded dragons are cold blooded but they need no humidity at all. They do need moisture because they have gills that will not function if they are dry, they stick together and don't pick up oxygen when dry. Being cold blooded, they need heat, but Angela has covered that already. Spraying a hermit crab to "give it humididty" is like keeping a puppy in a rubbermaid tote with a tiny hole in the top, then you open the lid for a minute each day. when they lid is closed, they get a tiny bit of oxygen from the hole, but not enough to live very long, same way with a crabs gills, wetting the gills once a day is just plain torture, if you want the crab to die, do it quickly, don't draw it out! What you need to do is get some tropical forest bedding (I recommend Eco-Earfth, Bed-A-Beast, or Zilla Sphagnom moss/Douglas fir mulch bedding. You can mix this with sand box sand, marine aquarium sand, or beach sand, but not the calcium sand she is using. then you moisten the bedding every other day, or as needed, and get a -- humidity guage, that and a thermometer are the two most important peices of equipment your crab needs! This woman is ridiculous! a Sponge doesn't do diddly squat for the humidity by itself, it helps a little, but it can in no way provide the 80% humidity they need.

Cold blood has nothing to do with humidity idiot. They have gills. I'm so sick of hearing her voice and all it's stupid lies.

As well intended as Ms. Noah may be in sharing her "expert" knowledge on land hermit crab husbandry, as Expert Village has deemed her based on being an award winning teacher who has cared for land hermit crabs for 14 years, these videos are very misleading with regard to what necessitates proper care. There are too many corrections to point out here on each of Ms. Noah's videos so, if you are truly interested in providing care that gives your hermit crabs the opportunity for a happy, healthy and longer life, and you prefer to have pets that not only survive, but thrive, please visit landhermitcrabs.com. We look forward to meeting you!

Awake and playing, or stressed and freaking out?

she is an expert. an expert hermit crab killer. when she is talking, put your fingers in your ear, you will be smarter for it.

They also need correct temperature (70-85 degrees Fahrenheit.) Also, chlorine burms their gills (yes, they have gills.) It's easier to maintain humidity if you have a 10 gallon tank. To make sure you have the correct humidity (75-80%,) you should get a humidity gauge. To maintain temperature, get either a thermometer or a humidity gauge. Hey debbie! I was just going to say...dont listen to these idiots talking bad about you. You are great at this! I think you are very informative.

that tank CANNOT maintain the proper humidity unless you live somewhere extremely tropic and don't have air conditioning. you need a glass tank with a lid. DO NOT spry you hermit crabs directly! they will stress them out and may cause them to drop limbs from stress or even DIE! check out www.hermitcrabassoci ation.com for the PROPER hermit crab care. these people have dedicated them selves to REAL hermit crab care.

Maintaining Humidity in a Pet Hermit Crab Habitat

Hi! I am Debbie with expertvillage.com and we are talking about having hermit crabs as pets. Right now we are going to talk about how important it is to maintain humidity in your crab habitat. Crabs are crustaceans, they are cold blooded and they need lots of humidity and moisture to maintain a healthy status. One of the ways you can do that is in their water dish keep a sponge. This one happens to be a little sponge, a little star shaped sponge and any kind of sponge will work, but keeping that moist and that water dish full will maintain humidity in the habitat. It is really important to keep for a healthy crab. So, keep your water dish really clean and your sponges clean and the way you can do that just put them under a faucet, get them really wet, rinse them out and get all the debris off them and then put them back in the habitat. It is really important that you keep them clean and bacteria down to a minimum. One other thing you need to do is to keep the humidity high in the habitat is get a small spray bottle doesn’t matter what kind, and every morning give your little crabs a spray, get them out, you don’t want to spray more than once, if your are working with children tell them just one little spray is good and that keeps them moist, the humidity high, that also wakes them up a little bit and makes them become a little more active for if you want them to get out and play.
