When to Replace a Car Trunk

Hi, I'm Doug. I work with twenty great guys in St. Louis at Doug Jenkin's Custom Hot Rods, and we're going to do some work for you today on Expert Village. Lots of old cars have problems with the fuel tanks. Often when you have problems with the fuel tanks, you have problems elsewhere in the car. This clip is about putting a new trunk floor in, after you've found out that your fuel tank has nothing to be fastened to. When we moved the fuel tank from this car, the fuel tank straps, where they attach to the underside, to the structure of the car, were both loose. This car has enough rust in it to where we couldn't just install a new fuel tank for the guy, we had to put in a new trunk floor so he had something to fasten the tank to. In this Pontiac, we wanted to buy a trunk floor to replace the existing rocking trunk floor. It's not so simple though. It doesn't come in one ig piece that fits this car perfectly. It comes in three pieces that fit some other car. We're not quite sure what, but this was the best thing the vendors could get. We'll take the three different pieces, put them in the trunk, find out the don't fit exactly, take some measurements, drive some new holes, get it held in place, and the weld it together.
