I'm Dr. Edward Weaver with Wilmington Optometry in Wilmington, North Carolina on behalf of Expert Village to tell you how to care for you contact lenses. The bulk of contact lenses now are two-week lenses. The contact lenses that I fit in my practice about 90% are two-week lenses. The justification for that is that they're comfortable, the vision is really good, and they're somewhat more economical than other modalities. Patients ask me many times what the magic is in a two-week period. Number one; that's that the FDA recommendation for the disposable period. Number two; in two weeks, they're dirty. In the meantime, I'm asked can I wear my lenses longer than two weeks. Sure you can wear them longer than two weeks, but they're dirty. That's really the rationale for getting rid of them in two weeks. It works out well that way. You don't have to do any special cleaning. You don't have to do any special cleaning. You don't have to use any special solutions to clean them. In two weeks, they're gone, you put new a pair in and start all over again.
