History of Ultimate Frisbee

Hello. My name is David Gelber. I represent the Hilo ultimate Frisbee community and I m here to do a little talk on an ultimate Frisbee on behalf of Expert Village. Frisby started back in the sixties. There was a company back in New Jersey, I believe. Called the Frisbee Pie Company and a bunch of kids decided it will be fun to throw the empty pie tins around. Thus the name Frisbee kind of got started. Whammo the company picked up on it and they took it and ran with it and made into commercial process. The sport of Ultimate Frisbee was first started at Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey. In the late sixties a bunch of students there decided they were going to do something fun and creative. They decided to get the sport of ultimate Frisbee started. A lot of the rules were made up then and a lot of the rules have evolved since then. But essentially most of the rules are pretty much the same. And forefront amongst those in is a not only competitiveness but it s a good nature competitiveness and very high spirited playing. Sportsmanship is very much a part of the game and that was placed in the heart of Ultimate by the founding fathers back there in Colombia High School.
