If you notice, the bisque piece is marginally larger than the glazed piece. This shrinkage occurs during the firing process. Any earthenware subjected to high heat will shrink and become a bit smaller. Our piece is currently a pinkish white color. We have decided that the piece needs more color. Adding additional color to a glazed piece is called on-glaze or stained glaze stain. We have added a darker shade of pink to the top of our piece and highlighted areas on the body. Adding color heightens the impact of the piece. You can add color or design anywhere you like on your glazed piece. The color may be painted or sprayed on. After you have added additional glaze(s) the piece must be re-fired. The piece is returned to the firing chamber to bake for 7 to 9 hours, depending on the size, how many pieces you are glazing and the type of stains you have applied. With any earthenware work or ceramic the temperature, the exposure to the temperature, and the length of baking time, is an extremely important part of the process. Thank you.
