I’m Melissa with Woolenton Optometry for Expert Village here to tell you how to choose your eyeglasses. If you want your glasses to last then you need to make sure that you maintain them and keep them, take good care of them. One of the first things that you need to do is make sure that you bring them into your opticians every three to four months, just to have the screws tightened, make sure that they are adjusted properly, make sure that there are no weak points in the frame that need to be taken care of. Another thing to do is to clean your glasses at least once a week, not just the lenses but the whole frame and lenses, run them under some warm soapy water, wipe them off with a soft cloth and that will keep them from getting any buildup, any turning or things of that sort. When cleaning your lenses you only want to use either optical approved cleaner or warm soapy water, no Windex, nothing else because they can take the coatings off of your lenses. When you wipe them down, as long as your lenses are wet using a soft paper towel is fine, but if your lenses are dry then the paper towel will probably scratch your lenses. Another thing, if you live in like a beach community or anywhere near the water you don’t want to get any saltwater or any water from a pool on your frames especially if it’s a plastic frame, it can cause the frame to discolor and to turn brittle and it’s more likely to crack and break. The last thing is you don’t want to leave them in the car, they, the sun can actually warp the frame and make the coatings on your lenses peel off so you want to make sure you keep them either on you or in your purse and that’s the way to take care of your glasses.
