Altitude Awareness in Skydiving
Hi, this is J.P. Furnari with Expert Village. In this clip, we'll talk about use of an altimeter and how to be altitude aware. A crucial part of your skydiving equipment will be your altimeter. Altimeter comes in many different forms. Most common is the analog, pressure-based altimeter. As a novice skydiver you use one. It's a very familiar clock face-like dial and as the needle progresses downward, you see the altitude reducing rapidly. It's very important to stay altitude aware. Obviously, we don't want to encounter the ground suddenly, we'd like to know where we are in relation to the ground. Other types of altimeters include digital, audible, they beep at appropriate altitudes signifying that it's time to end your skydive. For most visual altimeters, as a novice, you'll wear them on your wrist. To check your altimeter, you'll turn your head towards it, bring it out in front of your face, read it and return to your neutral position.
