Introduction to Jewelry Making

Hi I'm Debra Windsong with Expert Village. In this first clip I'm going to tell you a little bit about where to find your supplies and how to get started in jewelry making. What we do is gather our supplies first of all and sometimes that a process that goes little by little, it's what you're interested in first. But what you can do sort of doing silver settings or you know, settings in gold, is to use wire, sterling silver wire, or gold filled wire, 14KT gold wire or even gold plated wire. You may want to start out like that. You can also work with leather, other types of cords, and a thinner wire like a stainless steel coated wire for your necklaces and bracelets. And there are lots of different clasps and different designs and so it's endless as to what you can do even though you're not actually becoming a silver smith. A lot of what you'll need you can find online, especially the beads, you'll usually get a better price there because there's not the middle man of shopping at the local stores. For tools you may want to go down to your local arts and crafts store and they usually have the tools that are designated especially for jewelry making and they're easy to find. Wiring again and leather cords, that's up to you. You can find that locally in your stores or you can find it online as well.
