Tungsten Light as Fill Light for Model Shoot

Hi again, Rob Mitchell for Expert Village. We're moving on to fill light. We've already started on the key light, the main light on our model. Now what we want to do it soften those shadows. Again, we're using the tungsten lights, and we're going to place the fill light forty-five degrees off to the left of our model. If you remember we've go our key light over here, forty-five degrees to the right, forty-five degrees above her. We're going to do the same thing with the fill light. We're just going to add this, and you'll see the difference. I'm going to zoom in and give you a close up so you can see it even better. What the fill light is doing is taking away the harshness of these shadows here. It's softening them. We're not exactly where we want to be yet. But you'll see, as soon as I add the fill light, see it brighten the whole face up. But what's happening now is we've got even lighting. We've got even lighting on this side of the face and this side. It's not much shaping. It's not really that flattering. What we can do is we can start to move the light back. And see what's happening now, we're starting to get this shadow coming in here again. So what you're seeing here as we move the lights closer to Nicole, we're losing the shadows here, it's softening it. But, as I say, we want to create a little bit of modeling and shape to the face, so we're going to move them back just to where we feel comfortable. I've just got a little bit of shading here on the face. We still have that triangle of light happening in the eye there, and I'm pretty happy with this. We're going to take a shot and see how it looks. That's it.
