How Dentists Prevent Dental Cavities

Hello my name is Melissa and on behalf of Expert Village today we?re going to talk about how to prevent a cavity and how to save your smile. This should be a no brainer but in this clip let's talk about how to prevent a cavity by visiting the dentist. Now I know that it can be a daunting experience and many people don't enjoy going to the dentist, of course, because you think your dentist is going to find a cavity. Well if you go through each of these clips and you?re using the preventative methods going to the dentist is just really just another way of preventing method on how to prevent a cavity because what they really do is yes they check for cavities but they also have techniques that they do to prevent cavities for you as well. They do things like fluoride treatment, again a great preventative technique to prevent cavities, a great treatment for your teeth and also their using their little scrappers and mirrors to get in those hard to reach places that you can't get to, that you can't see with the naked eye by just looking at your mouth. So they get right in there and they'll scrape off the plaque. Plaque again that next stage when the bacteria changes into that whitish substance. All of that's plaque on your teeth and the plaque if it stays there long enough changes to acid and the acid eats away at your teeth. So going to the dentist key in doing this. You know once a year will be minimum, two times a year fantastic if you have maybe a dental plan that covers more why not take advantage of it. Especially, when you can go to the dentist and they use their scrapper and work and loosen some of the plaque in your mouth it is key in preventing cavities.
