To place D major in 2nd inversion across all string sets, place your forefinger on the 5th fret and fret all of the strings. Then either use your pinkie, your ring finger or if you can, you middle finger to bar the second, third and fourth strings at the 7th fret. I prefer my pinkie and use your middle finger to support your forefinger if you have trouble borrowing. Your chord should sound like this.
