Now once you've mastered just the basic hitting through the ball straight, what you can do to add just a little bit to your game, once you feel proficient at hitting the ball and being able to get the ball in play. What you want to do to put a little bit of top spin on, I think I alluded to it earlier, is to finish your stroke of your paddle up a little higher than you normally would with a regular follow through. So, what I'm going to do, I'm going to come through with my forehand, making contact with the ball and actually have my paddle come up and over and have my wrist just almost flop over the top of the ball. So that I'm making contact first, I'm trying to hit it flat, with the paddle, making contact and then, after I've felt the ball hit the paddle, I'm flopping, kind of flopping over the ball and raising my paddle up so that it's coming from low to high. Low to high. That'll put some spin on the ball and you'll be able to hit the ball higher over the net, clearing the net with more variance there and still being able to put the ball on the table. It'll drop down.
