Hi! I am Brandon Nowasky and on behalf of Expert Village.com I am here to show you some more stuff on card tricks. Right now we are going to learn about the breaks. It is a very crucial technique used in almost all the card tricks we will be doing. The break is a way to hold a position in the deck of cards. The first is a pinky break. In this I’ll exaggerate a little bit so hopefully you can see. You just get the flesh of your pinky up in there to hold that gap. So if you add a card in there, you would know exactly where it was and you can easily cut to it, just like so. The other break is the thumb break and this uses the other hand. Basically, if you had a pinky break you bring your right hand over on top, stick your thumb in the break and then just transfer it. That is just a break transfer and that way you can go from one hand to the other carrying that break without ever releasing the position. Once again the thumb break goes in like this. Pinky break is like this. Couple of little notes about the break. You want to make sure you keep your first finger up here. I talked about this earlier, what this does is this lines up the cards. If you had held the cards like this, there is a tendency to push the cards to become unaligned at the break and so that someone who was paying attention will be able to see where it is. Putting the finger up there and lining up the cards make it so the break is almost invisible from all angles except the back, which you have covered. Same thing with the thumb break; once we transfer you are going to want to keep your fingers up here and push your first finger down on top of it to hold it down. So the break is not visible. In our next clip, I will show you how to use that break to control some cards.
