How to Clean the Valves on Brass Instruments

Hello! My name is Dwayne Carter and on behalf of expertvillage.com we are here talking about cleaning brass instruments. We have been cleaning trumpet and we have the valves here. So we are going to clean these next. You do not want to submerge your valves in the water because you have felt here and felt underneath the cap. You do not want to get those wet because they can deteriorate quite quickly. So we just wanted to hold them into the water and take out our mouthpiece brush and clean each chamber. Each valve has three chambers that needs to be cleaned out. I am just double check inside to make sure that you got out all of the loose material and any oil build-up that may be inside and then rub the sides of the valves to make sure that all the grease is off of it. Do that for each one of your valves, really a simple process but very important process. We have matters stuck between your chambers that will get through your horn and cause a very stuffy sound. Of course the loose matter can get lodged inside the tubing of the horn as well. Now basically all three of your valves are clean.
