How to Take a Brass Instrument Apart for Cleaning

Hello! My name is Dwayne Carter and on behalf of expertvillage.com, we are here talking about cleaning brass instruments. What I am going to do now is dismantle the horn and soak the body of the trumpet. I am going to use the trumpet as we have seen the other brass instruments all similar, so we are going to use a trumpet as our example. I am unscrewing the valve caps and now the valves and remove the nose and now remove our slides and what I am left with is just the body of the horn. I filled the tub with some lukewarm water and now I am going to add a little soap. I am going to place a towel at the bottom of the bathtub. Your horn is hard, bathtub surface is hard. Two hard surfaces together is not a good thing especially for your horn. So we are going to put this down here to cushion the surface and place the horn on top of it. Now we are ready to clean.
