Hi, this is David Jackel on behalf of Expert Village. I'm here to talk to you about posting fliers when promoting a rock show. Now, when you're posting fliers you've only got so many. So, you have to think about where you're going to put them and make sure that you don't waste your resources. So, you want to think about neighborhoods where your audience is going to live. Then also the neighborhood of the venue. Of course, you want to put fliers up in the venue itself. In the venue bathroom is a great place too, because lots of people will be going in there. You will have their undivided attention for at least thirty seconds or so (more if they stay to wash their hands). Do not, Do not, Do not put up fliers in competing venues. You will get in endless trouble for that. The venue that you're performing at will get in trouble, which, in turn is going to get you yelled at. So don't do that! If there's any rules about where posters can't be put up make sure you don't put them there, because then the police get involved and they'll contact the venue. Sometimes venues get fined. They'll take that money out from whatever you expect to get from them. A general rule of thumb is to see where other fliers have been put up. Then you know that's a safe area. If you see a spot that has lots of other band fliers, you know you're safe there, because the police aren't going to get everybody in trouble. If you see a spot that suspiciously has no fliers anywhere, don't put your flier up there, because chances are it's going to get taken down and you're going to get in trouble. People will pay more attention to a flyer that they see a lot of. So, if you are in the right neighborhood, maybe put up a flier on every post. That way if someone is walking down the street and they see your flier, maybe by the fifth time they see your flier they will actually stop and read it. Show proper respect for other people who have posted fliers. Don't cover up fliers that are posted there advertising upcoming events. If you see a flyer for an event that's already passed then it's okay to cover it up. Chances are you're posting fliers in a place that's part of a larger music community. You want to make sure that you have a good relationship with other people in the community. So, be respectful, so that your posters don't get taken down.
