Etiquette for Online Rock Show Promotion

Hi, this is David Jackel on behalf of Expert Village. I'm here to talk to you about internet etiquette for promoting a rock show. Now, the internet is a wonderful way to reach out and promote events. Unfortunately, it's also a wonderful way of harassing people. A lot of people now have wised up and have realized they don't want to be annoyed by all the garbage that's coming to them through the internet. So, make sure that when you are sending out promotions on the internet that you do it in a way that doesn't annoy people and is respectful. If you have a mailing list, make sure that you only send out one mailing per event. Maybe two, if it is really important, because people don't want to get lots and lots of mailings. Otherwise they will ask to be removed from your mailing list. If you are sending up postings on MySpace, don't send out more than one a day unless there's a really good reason. If people get lots and lots of postings from your band on MySpace, it fills up their bulletin board and they can't read posts from any of their other friends. What they are going to do next is delete you. If you do send out letters to people on MySpace make sure that they actually are personal. Don't send out form letters. People can spot form letters and they'll be insulted that you didn't respect their intelligence enough to try writing a real letter. So, if you're going to take the time to send someone a letter on MySpace actually check out their page. Find out what they are all about and send them a letter that shows that you have some insight and took the time to learn about them. People will respect that you've taken the time to actually know who they are before you contact them. They'll be much more respective. Lastly resist the temptation to post comments on other people's pages that are actually promotions for your show, because people get really annoyed. The whole point of having a comment is that it is supposed to be about that person not about you. So, show people some respect and don't litter their pages with your ads. Using the internet as a promotion tool in a respectful way will help you gain fans. Using the internet as a way of harassing people will just get you deleted and blacklisted.
