Hi, this is David Jackel on behalf of Expert Village. I'm here to talk to you about designing a flyer for promoting a rock show. Now, a flyer is an important part of promoting a rock show, because lots of people are going to see flyers. However, unfortunately, people don't spend that much time looking at flyers. So, you have to think about what a flyer really serves. The point of a flyer (really) is to get name recognition for your band. Walking down the street people aren't going to stop and read every single flyer. If they start to see the same flyer over and over again they are going to start to wonder what it's all about. Then they're going to read your flyer and they are going to see what you are doing. So, don't think of a flyer as a place to put all the most important information. You want the flyer to be some place where people can see the name of your band, get a sense of what your music is about, and remember you. When designing a flyer remember that (most likely) it's going to be seen from a distance. So, don't do too much detailing. Think about coming up with a design that's spotable from a distance and recognizable. Come up with a design that is simple. Something that looks good in black and white, because chances are you are going to want to photocopy it in black and white (not printed out in color). Think of an image that really describes your music, because there is no sense in coming up with a look that confuses people where they don't know what to expect. The most important information to have on the flyer is the name of the band, a description and a time of the event and a link to your website so that people know where they can go to find out more information about you. Don't put too much information on the flyer, because then it becomes distracting and less people are going to read it.
