Hi. Dr. Roadmap, and I'm going to tell you what to do in case you are stranded. That wasn't on the agenda, but if you can get out of it quickly, it will decrease the amount of time that you get lost and get back on the road again. The first thing to do, of course, is to prepare for any events that might strand you. And AAA recommends, naturally, that you keep your car in good running condition. Check to make sure that your spare has air because if a tow truck does come by and they want to put your spare on the car and it's out of air- you are out of luck. You may want to buy one of those cans of compressed air. You can buy it at any auto parts store for like six bucks. That can always refill a flat in a pinch. The other thing is what do you do when you are driving and all of a sudden you are detecting a problem? This is a big danger. Let's say you have a flat. What you want to do is keep both hands on the wheel. Don't brake suddenly because it could put your car into a spin. Gradually get over to the right. By all means, do whatever you can do to not get stuck in a traffic lane or on the center divider. You want to get over to the right. And you want to get as far over to the right as possible. Turn your flashers on and stay in your car. In fact, let's say (God forbid) you get stuck in your car, stay in your car. I mean, in a lane, stay in your car. Turn on your flashers. Do not get out. Leave your seatbelt on. Keep the wheels straight ahead and prepare for the worst. Honest to goodness, I've taken depositions where people have been stranded on the freeway, they are stopped in a lane and they get rear-ended. So you have to act as if you are going to get in an accident at any second. Just stay in your car. Don't get out, whatever you do. A lot of people get killed right away, especially if they get in an accident; they stop, they get out of their car, and bam, they get hit. Stay in your car with the seatbelt on unless you can get way over to the right. Best of all worlds is to get completely off the freeway. And when you are on the right, exit on the passenger side. Don't step out into traffic. Raise your hood, put a white handkerchief or even a white piece of paper in your window. That will signify to police officers that you need help. These little tricks hopefully will keep you safe while beating traffic.
