Hi my name is Sarah and on behalf of expertvillage.com I am here at Petland in Pembroke Pines, Florida to educate you a little bit today about caring for your ferret. Also when you are handling your ferret you should learn to comfortably scruff your ferret. This does not hurt them. All it does is make them more handle-able. All you do is get your fingers against the meaty part of your hand right back behind their ears and hold on. At this point, they almost always yawn. It is just a ferret thing. You should support their rear end. This makes them relax and generally at this point another person can either clean their ears or trim their nails if they need to. When trimming their nails, it is just like doing a cat or dogs nails. You get small nail trimmers and trim just the white part of the nail staying away from what is called the quick which is the pink part which has the blood and nerve supply. When cleaning the ears, you want to get a cat or dog ear cleaner; a nice mild ear cleaner. Get some Q-tips, squirt the ear cleaner on the Q-tips and you clean only the outer part of the Ferret’s ear.
