Understanding the Vegan Lifestyle

Hello, I'm Robert Cheeke, President of Vegan Bodybuilding and Fitness based here in Portland, Oregon. And today, on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to do a tutorial all about being vegan. In this clip, I'm going to tell you how to be vegan. Basically, what we want to do is avoid any animal product, anything that's been tested on animals, or has to do with animal exploitation or cruelty. The reasons people usually get into veganism are usually threefold: animal rights, health, and the environment. Simply, people just want to be nice to other animals and not eat them, and not cause them pain. Isn't that our basic right and basic interest is to not feel pain? And that's what they feel towards animals, including myself. Other people get into it for health reasons. They want to eat foods that encourage positive health, eating fruits and vegetables, things like that, that add to positive energy and also the environment. The environmental implications can be huge when you are talking about factory farming, and field runoff into the water and polluted streams and rivers, and methane gas from cattle into the atmosphere to the air. And just land use in general, making it more efficient for human food and not using it to produce millions of animals for food consumption. If we are not forced to consume them because of need or requirement nutritionally, then obviously we are only doing it to satisfy our own taste buds, or for pleasure, or simply for some other reason. So, I would encourage people to not do that and look at a big picture, a larger scope that is thinking more about others not just ourselves.
