Venus Flytrap Seed Propagation
Hi my name is Wes on behalf of Expert Village.com, and in this video segment I am going to show you how to grow the Venus fly trap. In this video segment, I am going to talk to you about propagating your Venus Fly trap from seeds. Every spring, the Venus Fly Trap produces a flower. If that flower is pollinated correctly, it will produce seeds. So here in this container we have dried flowers and seeds from the Venus Fly Trap that produced them earlier this year. Now the seeds of the Venus Fly Trap are these tiny shiny black things. They are very small, but each Venus Fly Trap will produce dozens of them per flower. When you are growing them from seeds, you want to take a small black pot, using the same soil that you would pot mature plants in. You want to make sure that the soil is real moist, and you can put several seeds in each pot. You want to make sure that you place this pot under lots of light, and you also want to make sure that the soil stays nice and moist and it is in very humid conditions. This plant has been growing from a seed for about a year. As you can see, the plant is extremely small. When grown from seeds, Venus Fly Traps really grow very slowly. This one here has been growing for about 2 years from seed and again, you can see how small it is. The Venus Fly Traps will grow for about 3 or 4 years before they reach their mature size. At which point you will be able to tell they are fully mature, because they will start to produce a flower every spring. From that flower, they will produce hundreds of seeds every year.
