Venus Flytrap Leaf Cutting Propagation

Hi my name is Wes on behalf of Expert Village.com, and in this video segment I am going to show you how to grow the Venus fly trap. In this video segment, I am going to talk to you about propagating your Venus fly trap through leaf cutting and division. Once you have a mature plant like this one here, you will see that it should start to grow smaller fly traps from the base of the plant. At this point, you can start to divide your Venus fly trap and propagate it through leaf cutting. So the first step is to remove it from the pot as gently as possible, and you want to remove the soil from around the base of the plant. At this point, sometimes as you can see here the smaller individual plant will be completely separate from the mother plant. You want to set this one aside and continue taking the soil away from the mother plant. At this point, you can see that the mother plant is ready to be divided at the rye zone. All we need to do is just find more or less where the two separate plants are, and then divide them separating as much roots as we can. We can even make another division in the case of this plant, again, peeling the plant that from the rye zone as carefully as possibly. After you have divided the fly trap, you want to take your potting soil—make sure that it is nice and moist—and then we could just plant these plants directly in the soil like so. When you are propagating your plant from leaf cutting, you want to take the plant here by the leaf and peel it back from the rye zone. Very gently, like this. Similar to peeling a head of lettuce. You want to go down and get the whole plant. After you’ve peeled it back, you want to use some sort of rooting hormone, place the base of the leaf just a little bit in the rooting hormone like this, and then you want to place the leaf flat on the soil. You can put a little bit of soil around the leaf to hold it down. Normally new plants will start to sprout from the base of the leaf.
