How to Shoot a Basketball Bank Shot
Hi, this is Ryan Tapp on behalf of ExpertVillage.com. This is shooting basketball, shots around the court we are going to talk about the bank shot. A bank shot is used involving the back board. Anytime that the basketball hit the back board first in the NBA it is called the glass or in college or high school where the backboard is made out of glass. You would often; it is referred to off the glass. Any time it goes off the back board before it hits the rim or goes into the basket ball hoop it is called the bank shot. Probably the most common bank shot on a basketball court is going to be a layup. When shooting a layup you, if you remember when you shooting a layup you are coming at the basketball hoop in a way that there, it is almost like a 45 degree angle. Sometimes more. So it is easier to use the back board as more support when shooting a layup. There is more give and there is more room for the ball to kind of come in. Also if you notice that there is a square on your standard basketball backboard. That square is there for a purpose it is not just there for looks. You actually use that square to aim where you're acutely want to drop the ball off when you shot a bank shot. If you're going in for a layup on the right hand side, aim for the top right corner of that square. If you are coming in from the left hand side aim for the top left corner of the square. The square is placed in a position we are doing so we would put the ball right in the middle of the rim.
