How to Shoot Sky Hook Shots in Basketball
This is Ryan Tapp on behalf of Expert Village and this is shooting a ball, advanced shots, we are going to talk about the sky hook. Shooting a hook shot, advanced shots. Hook shot is probably the more advanced shots that there is on a basketball quart that they will actually allow that your coach will actually allow before kicking you out of the game or making you sit the bench. Basically it was created in a way, kind of the same way as a fade away shot, to keep the ball away from tall opponents. A hook shot is a lot like a layup, but it?s just further away from the hoop. It kind of differs in the other shots, it has a mixture of shooting off the dribble and the layup and the fade away kind of all rolled up into one. You want to keep the ball away from your opponent, keep your body as kind of a guard as protection in between your opponent and the basketball. In a sky hook the basketball the same way remember limited space on the palms. You?re going to want the basketball to be on the finger tips. You?re also going to want the ball to be away from the opponent. You raise the ball up with your shooting hand and you?re going to kind of hook it over your body. Although on a sky hook, after you bring the ball up above the chest, you?re not able to hold or support the ball with your opposite hand, your non shooting hand. You still will be shooting and following through, almost essentially the same way you would with a regular shot. It still goes up with the arm, you turn and face the basketball hoop. You want to keep your body as straight and centered as possible. You?re going to release off the finger tips, point your fingers straight at that rim and you?re going to follow through.
