For Expert Village.com, this is Jason Freedman. In this clip we will be talking about advanced techniques for collecting business cards, the letter writing campaign. You can get specific cards from just about anyone anywhere with this technique. What I would like to do is I use a form letter. There are generally bits about me and my hobbies, they are always the same in each letter and I just swap out the specifics depending on the type of card that I am trying to collect, the category of cards that I am trying to collect. Your letter should be courteous and written in a friendly style. You really want to emphasize that your request is for your hobby and not for business purposes. You want to include a self-addressed stamp envelop that will greatly increase your response rate and make it really easy for the person who you are requesting the card to return the card for you and then you want to follow up with a thank you e-mail, its free and their e-mail address is probably going to be right on the card. In my experience, like I said I never know when or if I am going to get a card back or a reply; it’s just a pleasant surprise to find something in my mailbox. But overall I would have to have to say that probably about 90% of the people that I have requested business cards from and used a form letter have returned my envelops with cards. So, without going on much longer here is sample of a card requested letter that I sent out; this one happened to be for an architect.
My hobby is collecting business cards. My goal is to reach 10,000 new cards by the end of the year. I already have about 3,000. My preference is for cards in very good condition. They don’t need to be mint, but I would rather there be no pinholes or writing on them. How can you help? By sending me cards. I would love to add your architect’s business card to my collection one or a 1000. You can mail 20 business cards in an envelope for just 39 cents. By the way I have included a self-addressed stamped envelop to make it real easy for you. I would be happy to reimburse you for postage if you have many more than 20 cards to send. If you have duplicates to share that will be great too, because I trade with other collectors. I will not use the cards for business purposes. They are solely for my collecting hobby. I am a member of the IBCC and NEBCC. I give the website addresses for those groups. I have even made a segment featured in the latest business card collecting DVD. You can see it online here www…
Thank you and have a great day,
Jason Freedman
I include my membership numbers and the acronyms of the clubs I belong to along with my mailing address and that is a form letter for a successful letter writing campaign. Use it in good health.
