What Is A Fixed Bridle Foil Power Kite?
All here we go with a little bit of a close up of a typical Ram Air Power Kite. This particular one is a flexi-foil bullet but most of the characteristics are common among all of the kites. This particular style is known as a fixed bridle foil and what that means is that the a-lines and the v-lines and the c-lines all come together to a common pipeline set while the trailing edge or d-lines are separated and operate off the bottom of the handles. This gives you the ability to have a very firm wind shape. This is three dimensional here. The sail is filled full of air, there is little tiny holes in between each of the sails to keep the pressure even all the way across the air flow. In flight, I’ve got it sitting on the handles with the breaks on so the trailing edges are being pulled in so the kite won’t fly away. But in flight as a wing on an airplane and the faster this moves, the separation of air over the top ad the smooth surface on the bottom creates a pressure differential and creates lift. Lift in our mind is typically an up force but in aerodynamics lift is away from the top of the air foil. So with a tethered aerodynamic like Kaisair when the kite is flying in front of your face, you will cross the sky that lift we call pull and that is what makes these kites so darn much fun.
