I learned something new. I would imagine that it would be wise to have the other end attached to a large weight, toolbox, or self so that you don't go through all the trouble just to have the wire slip into the wall or down the hole and have to go back downstairs to retrieve it. Thanks

Bead Technique for Installing a Phone Jack

Hi, I am Drew Fendy here today to demonstrate how to install a jack for your telephone for ExpertVillage.com. Another technique for fishing the wire through the wall is using beads. This is a bead just like the type that you would have on a pole chain for a light however this one I have is twenty feet long. This is a hole that might be inside a wall – imagine a wall on both sides of this and you are up any where from two to six feet above that and you have got to feed it down and so you just start dropping it down through. And when a little bit makes it through the hole, it tends to pull itself through. See how it comes through, now we can either connect it to a wire directly or we put a string intermittently, it depends on how far we have to go. For a really long one I have connected a string intermittently. We can just again use the black electrical tape, tape them together and then we can pull them up through the wall. That is taped together and as we obviously; well actually, you have to make sure that when you tape that that you do not have anything that could hang up. So we will go all the way up pass the tip of the wire so that there is nothing to catch when it is going up through the wall. So you see that that is nice and come right up through our pole here.
