Questions & AnswersHi, I am Drew Fendy here today to demonstrate how to install a jack for your telephone for ExpertVillage.com. This is how to plan the location for you phone jack, you have a general idea of where you want to put it and what we have to do is think do we need power for it? Do you need electrical power? If you have an answering machine then you are going to need electrical power, electronic phones you will need electrical power. So we need it somewhere near a receptacle. So for instance if this is a receptacle then obviously we do not want to put it real close to it because we are going to have trouble fishing the wires. We have 110 volt in the walls, electrical wires we want to stay away from them. So if this is a receptacle where we are going to put it, we may want to situate it over on this side. Here it is unpainted the wall so we know where the studs are from the screws. They do have electronic stud finders and you can find the stud, you can look on the finished wall for the little divots where the little screws are and sometimes you can see them. Other times you can go off of that outlet, you can take the cover off of the outlet, and you can see where the stud is. So let’s plan on putting it in over on this side so that we are well away from it.
