Hello, this is Rob Rubin, and you're watching Expert Village. This episode we're going to talk about snap shooting. Snap shooting is a skill in which you're going to try to lean out and shoot somebody before they have a chance to shoot you. Here's a situation, because this happens a lot in both woods and arena play. I've got a guy in front of me who's shooting at me, and I have no really good way to eliminate him because he's got me pretty well covered. What I'm going to try to do is snap shoot. The way I'm going to snap shoot--number one, you'll notice I have one knee up. I have this leg planted like this because this is going to give me some support as I do my lean. I'm going to raise the marker and have it in the shooting position that I prefer. Whatever is comfortable for you, that's what you want to use. Then I'm going to lean out just barely beyond the cover--just barely beyond this edge--take one to three shots, and come back in. Meanwhile I'm going to be playing as tight as possible--I'm going to keep the elbow down, I'm going to keep the knee in, everything I can to keep everything behind cover. And you might be thinking that sounds like normal shooting, except I'm trying to do this is a span of a second, maybe a second and a half. What I'm trying to do is I'm basically playing--I'm playing a game here with the guy in front of me. I'm trying to see if I can snap out, shoot, and come back in before you can readjust his aim to where I am. Sometimes it's a fifty-fifty shot, but a lot more times than not, you're going to be able to snap shoot, take a couple shots, come back in, make the other guy duck. If he goes to ground, if he goes to take cover, what you then do is still playing tight, come back out and plant. This is called posting up. You're going to post up on this guy and as he comes out of his position in the same area, you whack him. When you're doing your snap shooting, something you want to be kind of cautious of, especially on air ball fields. You'll notice that I didn't say that I'm shooting as I'm coming out. I'm waiting until the barrel crosses the plane before I shoot. There's a very good reason for that on air ball fields, and that is air ball bunkers are bouncy. And it's very possible, and I've seen it happen before, where somebody will start shooting before they leave the bunker, a ball will hit the bunker in front of them, ricochet and hit them in the face. Okay, it doesn't happen all the time, but it's happened significantly enough that I don't do it.
