Kneeling Shooting Tips for Paintball

Hello this is Rob Rubin and you're watching Expert Village. In this segment I am going to talk about kneeling shooting positions. When you are behind a kneeling bunker like this, nice and low bunker, you need to get super tight and play this super low. They usually put these about mid field for some reason, I wish I knew why. When you get to this position you have to play it tight but one decision you have to make as soon as you make it into this bunker is are you going to stay or are you going to go? The reason you have to make this decision right away is it is going to affect your stance. Right now I've got both knees planted on the ground. If I've got both knees planted on the ground, that means I'm planted. It is going to be very hard for me to to bale this position from two knees, it is going to take me a while to get up, roll to my knees and go. Now by comparison if I have one foot on the ground like this I can just spring from this position and just go so this is going to affect my stance when I am behind a kneeler bunker, am I going to stay or am I going to go? If this is a bunk position for me and I am not going to stay for more than 30 seconds, take one knee, keep on your foot and then get ready to go. If this is your spot for this game and you are putting out the white picket fence and the do not enter sign and all that other good stuff, put both knees down and this is going to give you more stability as you are shooting. Playing tight behind the kneeler bunker is very important and there is a lot of small details that you have to consider like your feet. If you have your feet laid out like this your foot is going to get shot because it's going to be in the danger zone. It is going to be in the line of fire. So when you are playing tight behind a kneeler, tuck your feet in, have them right under your butt and get comfy, unlike me because I'm old and I haven't stretched out, ah. The big advantage of going on two knees is you lose mobility but you gain a little bit of balance here. So with both knees behind me and my feet behind my butt like this my center of gravity can be anywhere in this triangle and I am in balance. What that means is from this position I can lean out to the right, take a couple shots, lean out to the left, take a couple of shots and I'm not going to fall over. This is a very stable platform to shoot from. When you are shooting while you take a knee you have to be very cautious not to only look at one side. Do not get the tunnel vision by looking at one side which is very easy to do when you are on a knee because if this is a natural shooting stance for looking one direction you have to mentally break yourself out of only looking one way and look the other. When you are playing bunkers like this you are very close to the action anyway so you have to keep on thinking and making decisions. Don't just put it on cruise control, become reactive, always be thinking and always be making decisions. You can always recover from a bad decision as long as you are still making decisions.
