Egyptian Belly Dancing : Types of Belly Dancing
Hi! My name is Sahira and I’m here on behalf of Expert Village to give you a little bit information about belly dancing. There are many different kinds of belly dance. It originated thousands of years of ago in the Middle East, in Egypt. Egyptian belly dance is slightly different from Turkish belly dance, it’s slightly different from Greek belly dance. The majority of what you see here in the US today is Egyptian style, though there is another style that has become hugely popular in the last couple decades and that’s American tribal style. I’m often asked what the differences are and really at the outset your basic isolations are the same in Egyptian and in tribal a hip slide is a hip slide, a chest circle is a chest circle, where the difference is coming other than the costumes, which is very obvious is how the dance is performed. Tribal style in its original form was always done in a group and it has a set of improvisational moves and cues, you learn a common language, sort of a sign language between dancers and you’re able to dance together at anytime, in any space to any music with no prior choreography.
