The Figure Eight With Hips Move: Egyptian Belly Dancing
Hi! My name is Sahira and I’m here on behalf of Expert Village to tell you a little bit about belly dancing. Another basic belly dance movement is the figure eight with the hips, it’s comprised of two different isolations, the hip slide, which is a side-to-side isolation that’s horizontal and parallel to the ground and the twist, which is a twisting isolation that pulls your hips forward and back around your center axis. When we take those two pieces and put them together we can create a figure eight or an infinity sign on the floor. We start with the twist, so I’m twisting my right hip towards the back, sliding out and scooping that right hip forward to bring it to the front right corner, sliding through to the left to bring the left hip to the back left corner and scooping through to bring that left hip forward again, connecting all of those pieces together you get your figure eight or your infinity sign on the floor, this one is traveling forward from back to front, you can also do it in the reverse starting in the front and traveling to the back, this is a backwards figure eight.
