Welcome to Bead Bar in Orlando, Florida my name is Sonia and on this segment for Expert Village we are going to discuss wire a little bit. What we are going to do is this first technique we are going to show you is wire looping. Okay, now when it comes to wire there are lots of different sizes and the sizes in the wire are by gage and how that works is as your number increases, the diameter gets smaller and smaller. Just kind of give you an idea of which gage we will be using today, I have got this one little piece here called a headpin and also since we are doing an earring, there is our French hook; the headpin is a 24 gage wire. I love using the headpins when I construct earrings because they are so easy. Even if you are not sure what your pattern may be you can simply go ahead and design directly off your headpin simply by slipping your beads on and off till something just sets you right and you know that is what you want to do. So let us say that this is my earring that I would like to construct. There are three tools right here in front of me. We have got a round nose plier, a needle nose plier and the wire cutter. The first tool I am going to use is my needle nose plier. I am going to take it to the very tip of my pattern here and I am going to make a right angle like so and then I am going to take my wire cutter; this is a little more than I need for this earring, so I am actually going to be trimming some of this way like so, okay. Next we are going to take our round nose plier and I am going to start maybe about a fourth of an inch away from the tip and you see how I just made that turn. As I make my turn I am also opening my tool and I am walking it down my wire; what happens is that it will coil my around my tool and form a perfect loop. Once you have formed your loop and what is nice about wire looping is that all you have to do is open that off to the side and simply throw it on whichever earring binding you prefer. On this one, we have done a French hook and you have a beautiful set of earrings. Now if I decided that may be I didn’t want to go with the French hook and if I want to change my mind and possibly use it on another finding, I have go over to this side; this hoop with a little loops on it and I simply have to just open it, feed it through one of the loops, close it, and there we are done. Of course, you would want to loop a bead off each one of those loops. What is nice about the wire wrapping is with wire looping, you can transfer from one earring to the next and you are done. It takes a little bit practice but hang in there and keep practicing. I promise you it is well worth it.
