About the Mandolin Family of Instruments
Hi! I am Michael Oberst for Expertvillage.com and I am mandolin instructor. In this segment we are going to be talking about the different types of mandolins or the different mandolin families that you may not be aware of. The first one I can mention would be mandola or the tenor mandola is tuned to a fifth below the mandolin in the same relationship as that of the viola to the violin. Another one would be an octave mandolin tuned in octave below the mandolin. Mandocello is another one tuned to an octave and plus the fifth below the mandolin in the same relationship as that of the cello to the violin. Another one would be a piccolo tuned one fourth above the mandolin, another would be the mando base, which is tuned like a double base, but it is really not commonly found. The Irish Bouzouki is also member of the mandolin family which you may not know.
