How to Play the Second Half of Cripple Creek on the Mandolin
Hi! I am Michael Oberst for Expertvillage.com. I am a mandolin instructor. In this next segment we are going to be learning the second half of our tune Cripple Creek. We went through the first half in the last segment and I will be finishing that up. So what we are going to want to do is to start with our A string play the first fret pluck it one time followed by three plucks on the second fret… Now we are going to go and play an open A followed by three plucks on the fifth fret of the D string… Now we are going to go back and play the first fret of A once followed by the second fret of A three times… followed by an open D once and then an open D twice… Now we are going to go to our first fret of A and kind of repeat what we just did a minute ago with different ending. Pluck one time the first fret of A followed by three times on the second fret…next open A with three plucks on the fifth fret of D… and then for the ending of this part there will be open D once followed by the second fret of D once and then the fourth fret of D once and open fret of D once and then the fifth fret of D once… Now you are going to want to play that last fifth fret of D two more times the first time through that second half of this tune. At the very end of this tune you are only going to play that fifth fret of D that very last note one time. So what the second half of Cripple Creek will sound like when you get up the part it will be something like this… then repeat… and play that fifth fret of D one time when you get to the end of the song on the end of the repeat.
