Using Pearls for Making Beaded Jewelry
Welcome to the Bead Bar in Orlando, Florida. My name is Sonia and I am here for Expert Village to share with you some of our freshwater pearls that we carry; we love our pearls. They do come from China. Pearls have come a long way. Certainly the quality is much better and the prices are definitely a lot better than they used to be when they first came out on the market. The pricing on the pearls again will be a little bit like the gemstones. It will depend on the color, the quality of the knacker and also the how well matched per strand each pearl is. You can see I have got a beautiful color here; this is a dyed pearl, this is not a natural color for the freshwater pearls but they are fantastic and it is a permanent color treating process that they do here. These freshwater pearls are a lot of fun. You will see that they have mixed the shapes and sizes, so if you just like making earrings or strand like this it is fantastic because you can make a whole lot of earrings off just one strand and all of these pearls are very affordable. This is called the rice shape here; you can see how beautiful the luster is in the pearls. A strand like this is 5 dollars and 50 cents a strand; very affordable there. Here you have this stick pearls. Again that is a color treating process that they have done on these stick pearls but very beautiful. Okay these are called the Keshi Flake Pearls. One of the nice features with the Keshi Flake’s is that they are easily twisted and interlocked so that they almost have the effect of one strand, so they lock into each other very nicely, and have a beautiful effect there. Over here you have the top drilled coin pearl. Then we have a really nice beautiful strand of well-matched pearls here. In this particular strand here, we have Tahitian Black Pearls and some of the flake pearls separating each Tahitian Black Pearl and here’s a fun shape in the freshwater pearls; it is a triangular shape and it is top drilled. Then we have the stick pearls drilled through the center as opposed to through the side as shown in these pearls here and that could be a really fun design element. Freshwater pearls are a great item to have in your bead stash because they mix with everything much like the crystals. They really just bring a rich quality to any piece that you construct with them; so make sure that they are part of your collection.
