We are Nick and Valerie Wisniewski on behalf of expertvillage.com. We would like to talk to you about bear tracks and for more information, please see our website at walnuthilltracking.com. On the ground here, I’ve got some plastic bear tracks of some bear tracks that we’ve made and we would like to point out the assailant features of bear tracks so you can learn how to identify them on your own. The first thing to notice about a bear track is that a bear is a five toe animal. It has five toes, both on the front foot and five toes on the hind foot. That is one of the key features although sometimes the first track the inner toe does not register on the ground. Another thing to look for is the palm and heel pads. The bear walks plantigrade which means it tends to plant its foot very flat footed and on the front foot, you will notice that the heel pad does not register. The heel pad is not very well developed and the hind foot however, the heel pad usually does that just because it is much more developed.
