How to Play the First Half of Cripple Creek on the Mandolin
Hi! I am Michael Oberst for Expertvillage.com. I am a mandolin instructor. In this segment we will be beginning to learn the first half or the first sections of a tune that I learned a long time ago called Cripple Creek and so let us begin that. What we are going to want to do is start with an open E and play this one time, then go to the second fret on E play that one time and we are going to go to the third fret on E and play that two times and we are going to go to the fifth fret on A and play that once, then to the second fret on A play that once, then to the third fret on A play that once, then open E once and then the third fret on E once, then an open E again once, then the fifth fret on A again once. Now we are going to go to a first fret on A play that once followed by three hits on the second fret of . Then an open A followed by three hits on fifth fret of D. Then the last line will be an open D followed by number second fret on D then the fourth fret on D then an open D and our fifth on D. Now if you put all these notes together which may sound confusing, it will sound something like this which is the first line of the tune Cripple Creek… We will try that one more time…
