What's up with the extra note at the end? The major scale has 8 notes.

How to Play a Basic Scale on the Mandolin
Hi! I am Michael Oberst for Expertvillage.com. In this segment you will be learning an A scale, so what we are going to want to do is start with a note A. Which we can find on our G string on the second fret so put your index finger on the second fret of the G string and that will be an A. We start from the A and put our middle finger on the fourth fret of the G string. Then we will move to the sixth fret of the G string, then we will play an open D and then we will play our index finger on the second fret of the D, then the fourth fret of the D, then the sixth fret of the D, then an open A, then the second fret of the A, then the fourth fret of the A, then the fifth fret of the A, then an open E. The first fret of the E on to the fourth fret of the E, then the fifth fret of the E, then the seventh fret of the E with our pinkie. Now if we put all those notes together that will be a scale and I will play that for you. Now I am going to play that a little faster. What you want to do is practice this scale a lot and make sure you are really putting that pinkie down to get a nice clear note. It is hard a lot of times to play with your pinkie but it needs to be done.
