Bagpipe Grace Notes Called the Birl
Hi! I am Mike Oberst with expertvillage.com. I am a bagpipe instructor and I will be playing an example of a grace note called the Birl. This grace is the note of A by a movement with your pinkie finger on your right hand. Let us see how that sounds. That would be a birl. What you need to do to play a birl is play a low A, slide your pinkie, pass the low G making the sound of a low A again and then slide the pinkie again, pass the low G making a sound of an A again… That is the birl.
