Grace Notes on the Bagpipes
Hi! I am Mike Oberst for expertvillage.com. I am a bagpipe instructor. In this segment, we will be talking about grace notes. There are many different types of grace notes. There are G, D and E grace notes, high A grace notes, shakes and doubling. There is the birl. There is D throw. There are just so many that I won’t have time to go through all of them. So I would suggest that you pick up an instructional book of some kind. I can in this time go through and show you the D throw and the birl. With the D throw, we will be using our right hand. The D throw is an interesting way to get from the note of A to a D. We will start up playing a low A and then play a low G to go to a C with a D grace note and then playing a D and I will play this is an example… That would be a D throw in its slowest form. I will play it again… Now speed it up and it would sound something more like this… and even faster to go from an A to a D, a D throw would sound like this.
