Hi! I am Mike Oberst for expertvillage.com. I am a bagpipe instructor. In this segment, we will be learning about correct finger posture and positioning Finger posture and positioning from the start is very important. It is very important not to grip the chanter too tightly and keep your fingers straight, but not stiff also between your hands. The right hand holes will be played with the second pads of your fingers and the top holes will be played with tips pads of your fingers. A lot of people seem to think that they should all be the tips when they start, but this is not true. You need to play with these three on the second tip, on the second pad in order to be able to cover the lower hole with your pinkie. So, that is pretty much what we need to know about finger posture and positioning
I just bought my first chanter and will shortly begin lessons, but before starting the lessons I wanted to get acquainted with the chanter. The book I purchased didn't help much. This series of videos helped alot. I think I can now start my lessons with a bit of a head start.
